After the disasters and significant losses caused by the devastating fires in the city of Los Angeles, California, thousands of affected homeowners have received some good news that will, in some way, help mitigate the tragic consequences.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thanks to an important agreement, and the administration of current President Donald Trump, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has extended a foreclosure moratorium for all single-family homes that had a mortgage at the time of the devastating fires.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Scott Turner, Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the measure signed this Thursday will extend the foreclosure moratorium for 90 days to homeowners in areas affected by the wildfires in the city of Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recent studies on the number of single-family homes affected by these devastating fires have revealed that the most impacted neighborhoods are Altadena and Palisades. Between both areas, according to the analysis, more than 11,000 homes have suffered significant damage or destruction, some of which may be repairable, or many properties may be lost.<\/span><\/p>\n

Under this new 90-day foreclosure moratorium protection, mortgage servicers will not be allowed to start or complete any foreclosure actions on single-family homes insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) or homes with Home Equity Conversion mortgages until the 90 days have passed, a deadline that will occur on July 7 of this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to the personal challenges faced by all the victims of the California fires, this measure was created with the intention of providing a little more relief to homeowners affected by the Los Angeles fires. According to HUD statements, the extension of the moratorium by 90 more days is a clear demonstration of the administration’s dedication and commitment to helping those affected by natural disasters, providing them with more time to recover and achieve better financial stability during this granted period.<\/span><\/p>\n

Currently, according to FHA reports, Los Angeles County has about 100,000 mortgages insured by them. However, with the help of HUD, further studies are being conducted to identify with other administrators and mortgage agencies which other properties with FHA-insured loans in the county have suffered damage or were destroyed by the fires.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to this 90-day foreclosure moratorium protection, it has also been reported that many banks and private lenders have granted financial relief to many affected by the fires to ensure that neither their credit rating nor their economic or financial life is significantly harmed.<\/span><\/p>\n
