If the owner doesn’t step up and follow the orders from the city’s Police Department, these folks might have to find somewhere else to live.

Last Thursday, CBS Colorado shared a letter from the Aurora Police Department that was sent to the owners of the apartments on E 12th Avenue and Dallas Street. The letter was pretty clear: fix up the place or face foreclosure. This came after the city checked things out and heard from tenants that the property managers had just up and left, leaving everything to fall apart without any services.

V Reeves, who works with Housekeys Action Network, has been helping the residents with their complaints. Reeves told the media that if the buildings get shut down, a lot of families, including kids, will end up without a home, which would really mess up their future.

Reeves also said, “They’re basically dooming these families and their kids to live on the streets or in their cars. People are stuck in dangerous situations because there’s no support, and the owner hasn’t given any financial help or anything, even though he’s making millions off them.”

Aurora’s mayor, Mike Coffman, mentioned in an interview that the city is trying hard to make the owner take responsibility, but it hasn’t been going as well as they hoped. Some even think the owner might just want the properties to go into foreclosure.

Despite all this, the city doesn’t actually want to close the building. They’re hoping the letter will push the owner to help make the place safe and clean for everyone living there.

Reeves thinks the whole situation is really fishy and said, “I’m really disappointed with Aurora, Colorado, and the country for letting this kind of thing slide. This guy has a long history of doing bad stuff, and he’s getting away with it.”

Recently, the city of Aurora put out another statement saying they’ve tried to get in touch with the property owner, but he’s just ignored or turned down all their efforts.

Available Foreclosures:

Aurora: 15 homes available.

By Elías DaSilva | 31 de octubre de 2024

Residents of an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, are in a tough spot because the buildings they call home are in really bad shape.
