There are quite a few types of repo jobs available. Repo traders, repo analysts, and repo agents are some of them. The most fundamental repo job is that of a repo agent. A repo agent is one who is a field operator, executing the job of meeting the clients, taking repossession of mortgage properties in case of defaults, etc. The job requires savvy clients knowledge, high persuasion skills, strong fortitude to withstand harsh treatment by clients, and a keen determination to succeed.
Driving a car away when a borrower has failed to pay the installments is not an easy job. The client has to be convinced that all other options had been exhausted. Proper legalities have to be patiently explained. Quite a few repo agents tend to act tough. That might produce results in the short run. However, the name and reputation of the lender is likely to suffer in a severe manner, if the repo agent continues to adopt strong-arm methods. The three main responsibilities of a repo man are effective task completion, quality compliance and proper delivery position.
A repo analyst is expected to have strong financial and economical qualifications. Detailed knowledge of various financial instruments, the possible changes in their values due to market vagaries, anticipation of market conditions that could bring about such changes, current interest rates and their future trends, as well as a sharp analytical mind are the prerequisites of a good repo analyst. The repo analyst should be able to render proper guidance the repo traders in his organization as well as the clients. He/she should evaluate a proposed transaction, analyze future market movements and suggest the right repo rate according to the amount of risk involved.
Nowadays, nearly all the financial institutions are entering into market operations and repo trading is an important segment. Repo traders are required to have sound knowledge of repo trading and repo financing, along with experience in interest rate products or ABS products. Repo trader positions are available at entry level, intermediate, and higher management levels. Persons with exceptional talent and sufficient experience would be ideal candidates for selection by the central banks.
Thus, it is clear that there are various types of repo jobs available, according to qualifications and aptitude. All of them are financially quite rewarding. They, however, require specialized knowledge and hard working nature.
