There are government homes that can be found through real estate websites and home mortgage loan lenders that are excellent properties, and will make fine investment opportunities for the savvy real estate investor that has done their research.

These government homes are typically obtained by the homeowner through the use of federal funding obtained through the Veteran’s Administration or through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). They are normally approved for low-income level, single family homes that provide shelter that they can more readily afford.

There are many listings of government homes that can be found through the Internet, and there is also a list maintained through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. These home listings can be for single families, and may have been used in the Chapter 8 program. The actual use of the property before it is purchased may never be determined.

Federal agencies place these homes up for sale due to the homeowners defaulting on their home mortgage loan. These government homes may be excess housing that once served as military barracks, mess halls, and living quarters for personnel that were stationed at a military facility that was closed due to government down-sizing.

There is a marvelous opportunity for real estate investors to reap great profits through the purchase of government homes. These barracks can be converted into condominiums, and sold at a much higher profit than what they were initially bought for. Some of the purchases in government homes real estate properties may require the services of a real estate agent, but there are quite a few that can be negotiated through a simple form submission at any local Department of Housing and Urban Development office.

There are online auctions for government homes and other properties. The government homes have a clear recorded track record of repairs and all enhancements that have been done during the course of a lifetime of wear and tear. The bidder at these auctions will be allowed to see the property before bidding, to get a good idea on what the property is worth, and the associated selling prices of other pieces of real estate properties in the area, whether they are government owned, or through civilian homeowner purchases.

Some of the government homes placed up for auction by HUD can be in dire need of major repairs. Long forgotten properties that have not been occupied in years, are great targets for rat infestation and damage from storms, hurricanes and vandalism. These government homes are being sold to help rid the government of excess properties that no longer serve a useful purpose. People can benefit greatly by purchasing government homes. They can be turned in to fully serviceable single family and multi-family dwellings with a minimum amount of investment in most cases.
