One of the solutions to the foreclosure crisis is to re-design suburbs so that the houses are made to meet the needs of the people. It means altering single family units and recycling materials from old houses and factories. The problem of toxicity can be solved by planting certain types of trees. All this will require change in present rules.
Many have forgotten another settlement that was reached with the regulators with 14 mortgage servicers last year. Borrowers can apply for independent review of their cases, the timeline for which has been extended. They can stake claims on both settlements. The share of compensation is bigger in the settlement of last year.
There are many factors explaining why foreclosures take place and where it happens. Race is one of the important factors apart from crime, income levels, employment picture, value of property etc. But research has shown that the White investors played an important part in concentration of foreclosures in Black neighbourhoods.
War has been declared between the police union and management of Stockton City. To narrow down a staggering budget deficit the city has started to trim the police force and cut down on wages and benefits. The citizens are feeling that with a lesser number of police personnel they will be exposed to more crime and criminals.
The Occupy protestors have taken to direct action across the country in a big way. The homeless are being settled in vacant houses, former house owners are returning to their homes with their belongings while some are promising not to leave until force is used. All are complaining that the banks ignored their repeated pleas for loan modification.
Some neighbourhoods in East New York have the highest rate of vacant foreclosed houses. These blight the locality as they slowly crumble due to neglect. Since the banks will not do anything the Occupy Wall Street activists have now started to target these houses. They are matching families without homes with homes without families.
Occupy Foreclosed Homes claimed victory when by demonstrating in front and inside one of the branches of Chase in Redwood City, on behalf of a septuagenarian woman. They managed to postpone the sale of the house for two months. Gloria Takla, would be given a chance to modify her loan – something she had been trying in vain for nearly last two years.
Norwich City is foreclosing on many properties owned by Janny Lam, a noted downtown developer. Lam contends that she has been trying to sell a few of the 26 properties that she owns to come out of the debt. Lam more than $300,000 in taxes.
