An in-ground swimming pool can be a great addition to any home. It will increase the resale value as well as add a focal point to your yard. The set-up costs of a pool can be expensive, and this has kept many from installing an in-ground pool in their yard. You can build in-ground pools on your own, which will save you thousands of dollars over professionally built ones. If you have a few friends to help you build your in-ground pool, this can be constructed quickly and easily.

To install an in-ground swimming pool, the best option is to buy a pool kit. An economy pool, depending on the shape of the pool and other extra gadgets, costs around $3,000 to $4,000. A kit with all the bells and whistles usually costs around $12,000. This is a huge difference than the $40,000–50,000 ones that you could get from a professional installer. There are other costs involved, though, in addition to the pool kit.

Usually, items included in an economy pool kit includes dig sheets, installation manual and video, liner, pool walls and bracings, hardware kit, coping, skimmer and returns, deep-end ladder, pump and filter, rebar stakes, 2 anti-vortex main drains, a maintenance kit, safety rope and anchors, and wall foam and adhesive. Deluxe kits include all of the economy items plus walk-in-steps with a rail. Premium pool kits include all of the items mentioned above as well as step jets, plumbing kit, pool timer, 500-watt light, and an in-line chlorinator. These are the basics of pool kit inclusions. Depending on whom you go to for a kit, some of the items included may be different. An important part of the process, which is not included in the kits, is to make sure you have the proper permits before you begin construction.

There are basic steps to building your own in-ground swimming pool. First, you will need some friends and relatives. It will take you about 2 weeks, if you work everyday, to install the pool and about a month or 6 weeks if you only build the pool on weekends. Second, make sure to do your homework. Learn more about the pool kits that are available and pool installation procedures. The pool kit dealer should be very reputable, and they should include manufacture warranties and technical help along the way.

After that, you need to figure out your budget. You have to take into account the swimming pool kit cost, customizing and extras costs, labor costs, etc. It is probably a good idea to hire other people to do things like pouring concrete, excavation of the pool, bottom troweling, and back filling. Time tables are very important so that contractors can be hired at the right time. Then, the building begins. The location is important; make a diagram of this and how you want your pool to look so that you can confer with the contractors involved. After the excavation by the contractors, assemble and place side panels of the pool. Plumbing is next; this should probably be contracted out as well. Then, shape the bottom of the pool, trowel out, and pour concrete. After the concrete has dried, the excavation can be backfilled, and then, the liner needs to be installed. The pool can then be filled and landscaping can be done to complete repairs and add a deck to beautify the area.
Beautifying your home on the outside, by adding an in-ground swimming pool, will complement the inside beauty and will, therefore, help to increase the value of your home.
