Obama’s First Speeches as President Focuses on Foreclosure Related Crisis
Without ambiguity the first speeches of Obama as President of America focused on foreclosure related crisis. He pointed out to the fact that the nation is in crisis. He spoke of hard truths and did not harp on false promises.
He said that the world has recently lost its faith in America but soon it will learn to believe in it again. He admitted that job losses and house foreclosures have been realities that have rubbed off much of the greatness but there are no limits yet to what Americans can achieve. He stressed on all to believed in the founding principles of America and not on the cartoon sketch of it that is now making the rounds.
Speaking to the world he said that it was time to recall that real America that uses the tools of negotiation and compromise and not the one that flouts the law and transgresses it. He wanted belief to be renewed in an America that battles through challenges, faces up to its problems and works industriously to get the jobs done and not the America that is thought of to be taking the easy escape route. He wants all to have belief in an America that honours the common heritage of the country with its many colours and beliefs and not the one that divides one against the other and holds grudges for petty insults.
Above all he wanted the people of the country to believe in themselves even if jobs seem to be walking away and the foreclosed economy is in ruins. He sad, “Our workers are no less productive than when this crisis began. Our minds are no less inventive, our goods and services no less needed than they were last week or last month or last year. Our capacity remains undiminished.”
Obama’s speech was received with tearful, thunderous applause mingled with smiles and simple nods. Some reactions have remained framed in time – a black middle-aged woman listening to Obama with her head bowed, closed eyes and upright palms. Another picture was that of an interracial couple standing with their arms around each other hypnotized and speechless drinking in the speech. Another young man was soaked in tears. All of them are descendants and contributors of and to this “patchwork heritage” that President Barack Obama referred to. The lives of Obama and Michelle speak of the struggling journey towards faith and belief.
