Foreclosure pets have no voice – they are the dumb sufferers of this man-made society. Often the borrower moves on leaving behind the pet. Rising to the occasion more services are coming forward to help the hapless creatures

No Paws Left Behind based in Houston keeps information about the various animal shelters that distressed foreclosure victims can get to know. The Humane Society of Washington is now granting funds to shelters so than they can organize help for small animals that are left behind. It has granted $2,000 per shelter specifically for foreclosed pets.

Mustlovepets.com is a website that has come up. John Jablonski started it with the objective of making it easy for pet lovers to meet each other so that ideas can be exchanged and solutions worked out for placement of pets during these troubled years. Jablonski said that it is a single website but has many members who know all about pets and their related problems. They are proactive and eager to help pet owners in trouble. One never knows when a helping hand will come of use. He adds, “I believe it’s always better to have more options than not.”

The main reason people give for leaving pets at shelter points is that they are shifting. From this scant information it is difficult to gauge how many are moving because of foreclosures because the people are reluctant and ashamed to come out with it. But the fact is that the number of shelter seekers is increasing especially in those regions where foreclosures have been most active.

New laws are coming into effect about chaining animals in the backyard and going away. But it is difficult to enforce the law with a flood of foreclosures deluging the entire country.

Mortgage Solutions of Houston has seen the worst of the effects. Its work is to check foreclosed houses across USA. They work for the banks by inspecting and fixing the houses. Frequently they have come across abandoned animals. About 10 weeks ago the owner of the company was moved to tears seeing the photograph of dogs in Arkansas abandoned in a backyard.

The legal angle about pets is a bit twisted. Pets are regarded as property of the owner and as such removing them may invite trouble. The law is being rectified – at least attempts are being made. Foreclosure victims are being told to leave their pets in shelters and not to abandon them.
