The foreclosure crisis has not led to an increase in divorce rates as many had once thought. According to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, marriages have remained stable around 50% of the time. But there has been a change in the manner in which couples are dividing their assets.

Lee Blcok runs a dating site for divorcees – PostDivorceDatingClub.com. She said many couples opt for the nesting arrangement wherein the parents alternatively stay in the house without surrendering to foreclosures; the children stay here all the time. She warned that this requires an understanding to be reached between two divorced parents.

Lee also witnessed a reversal of roles where the women are funding child and spouse support for the men who have become jobless. Block explained, “The father may keep primary custody because he’s been at home while she’s out working”.

The foreclosure has triggered the blooming of the love affair business! During the early months of 2009 – four months since into the recession-the “married dating service for discreet encounters” of Ashley Madison took off. For the following six quarters, as the economy kept spiraling downwards before leveling out, the affair website saw a steady increase in its income.

Noel Biderman of Avid Life Media (CEO) said, “We’re not a recession-proof business, we’re a recession-growth business. Everyone looks for a temporary way to feel better about themselves”.  Biderman observed that that they have received loads of mail from clients residing in Michigan, Nevada and Arizona– some of the hardest hit states.

He added that basically people were confessing in their profiles that their marriages were over; they were just waiting for the economy to get back on rails. Who would opt for paying $40,000 in a divorce settlement when you can have an extramarital affair for only $49?!

This process works in the following way-the more you play, the more you pay. The rate for 100 credits is $49. This permits you to connect with 20 individuals. You then have the option to decide how much more you would like to share with that individual (photos etc) and if you want a meeting. When completed, Madison deletes all the communications from both the inboxes so that none has ammunition for blackmail.
