What do we mean by Real Estate? It is the buzzword today. Estate refers to property. The word ‘real’ is an adjective to describe the estate. How can a property be real or unreal? By real we mean something solid. Gold is wealth but it can get stolen. Whereas it is landed property that is immovable and hence by Real Estate we refer to landed property.

Land is precious. Nobody could have highlighted it better than Scarlet O’ Hara in Gone With The Wind. So land has to be bought – and this time the address is going to be Houston. Houston or Space City with a population of two million is the largest city in Texas and the fourth largest in USA. It covers 600 square miles. Houston is also part of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area. Houston is important for being the centre of the Texas Medical Centre, the world’s largest concentration of healthcare and research. Also it is NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Centre. Houston’s economy is based on energy, aeronautics and technological industries. Houston Port ranks first in international commerce in USA and is the sixth largest in the world. Forbes magazine has remarked that Houston is within the category of the best place for commerce and careers. At the heart of Houston’s economy is mining exploration and production of oil and gas. There are twenty-three active foreign chambers of commerce and twenty foreign banks representing ten nations. Thus it is not difficult to see why Real Estate is thriving business in this booming multicultural city.

In the computer age one has to click on the mouse and be connected to Real Estate Agents in Houston. First of all there is a list of property type – single family home, town home/condominium, high rise condominium, residential lots and land, multifamily units, homes and or acreage. The sites are alphabetically located and divided into school districts. The next category consists of amenities – private pool, area pool, tennis court, sprinkler, spa, hot tub etc. the price varies according to location. Is it near a golf course or is there a water view? Is it on a cul-de-sac or corner? Is the area wooded? For the seller the questions are asked in the reverse order.
